ShipRush

Service Mappings

Some web stores or e-commerce systems may identify a shipping Service only with a generic name (for example, express). To ship properly, Descartes ShipRush Web needs to know the exact shipping Service to use (for example, FedEx Express Saver). In Descartes ShipRush Web, Service Mappings are used to identify the correct name of the specific shipping Service needed. A Service Mapping determines what is displayed on the Shipping screen.

For example:

Shipping service from the e-commerce system

Shown on the shipping screen as

"expedited"

"UPS Next Day Air" or "FedEx Overnight"

"standard"

"UPS" or "FedEx Ground"

Parameters for Entering Service Mappings

Service Mappings are used to convert the shipping service from the e-commerce system to a specific shipping service. For example, the e-commerce system might use "expedited" and "standard" shipping services. You might want "expedited" to automatically populate in the shipping screen as "UPS Next Day Air, FedEx Overnight" and "standard" to populate as "UPS, FedEx Ground".

To ensure that these settings work properly, enter the name of the shipping service exactly as it was imported from the e-commerce system.

The Priority of each Service Mapping determines the order in which the settings will be applied. Please note that the mapping uses a partial match system. If you have mappings with a similar beginning, you should set the most specific to the highest Priority (lowest number) and the least specific to the lowest Priority (highest number).

Ensuring Correct Flow from E-Commerce System to Shipping System

Ensuring that the correct shipping service flows from the e-commerce system to the shipping system can be easy or challenging. For example, eBay provides a reliable flow of shipping service. If a specific service is part of the eBay listing and/or purchase, the service will flow to Descartes ShipRush. On the other hand, other systems, such as Amazon, may provide only generic shipping service names, such as "expedited" and "standard", which may not map automatically.

Many cart systems, such as Magento, Zen Cart, and OsCommerce allow you to set your own shipping service names. In these cases, Descartes ShipRush will attempt to map the shipping service read from the cart to a real "hard" shipping service, such as Priority Mail. This mapping works best if the cart sends shipping service names that are expected.

Using the Full Name (Best Way)

The best results occur when the service name is an exact match. The cart should have the service name set up from one of these items:

  • USPS First Class

  • USPS Priority

  • USPS Media Mail

  • USPS Parcel Post

  • USPS Express

  • USPS Intl Express

  • USPS Intl Priority

  • USPS Intl First Class

Using a Partial Name

A partial match will work, but use caution. For example, "First Class" can match both domestic and international First Class services and thus may give inconsistent results. The following list should work properly for domestic shipping:

  • First Class

  • Priority

  • Parcel Post

Managing Service Mappings

To manage Service Mappings:

  1. Display the Settings > Service Mappings page (SETTINGS > ACCOUNT SETTINGS > Service Mappings).

  2. Enter the Service Mapping's Priority.

  3. Enter the Webstore Service Name. The Webstore Service Name indicates the name of the shipping service, as provided by the web store. This name is usually a generic name, such as Express, Standard, FedEx, etc. The official name is shown in the Ship Via field of the order (see graphic, below).

  4. Select the ShipRush Shipping Service. The ShipRush Shipping Service is the exact name of the shipping service coming from the carrier, such as USPS Express 2-Day, UPS Worldwide Standard, or FedEx Ground.

  5. Repeat the above step to add another Service Mapping. Each Service Mapping includes a delete option.
