Overview of UPS Worldwide Economy Service
UPS Worldwide Economy provides a low-cost international service with DDP (Deliver Duties Paid) and DDU (Deliver Duties Unpaid) options. International packages are processed individually and tied to a “master” carton ID. When packages are ready for shipment, the user places each group of “child” packages into a “master” package and sends the Master Package as a domestic shipment to a UPS processing center. UPS then sends the child packages to their individual destinations.
Note: UPS Worldwide Economy is a contract service, so UPS must enable the service for the account before the user can access the services.
Enabling UPS Worldwide Economy
Before using UPS Worldwide Economy in Descartes ShipRush Web, it must be enabled in SETTINGS > UPS Account. Perform the steps highlighted in the graphic below.
Processing UPS Worldwind Economy Packages
To process UPS Worldwide Economy packages:
1. On the Editing Shipment screen, on the From dropdown, select the UPS account for which UPS Economy Services is enabled.
2. In the To area, enter the recipient's address that is outside of the U.S.
3. Enter Shipment details for the first child package in the carton.
4. In the Master Carton area (see graphic, below), select Master Carton Shipment. On the Carton dropdown, select Create New.
Note: When you click Ship, you will receive the label for the first child package.
5. Continue to create child packages for the Master Carton. On each Shipment, select the Master Carton ID to tie the Shipment to the Master Carton.
6. To close the Master Carton, create a domestic shipping label to the UPS distribution center, and then close the Master Carton. You will receive the domestic shipping label for the Master Carton.
Voiding Labels for UPS Worldwide Economy Packages
Please note the following in regards to voiding labels for UPS Worldwide Economy packages:
Voiding child shipments: Child shipments can be voided either before or after the Master Carton is closed.
Note: Voiding a child Shipment does not affect the Master Carton nor other child packages associated with the Master Carton ID.
Voiding the Master Carton: The Master Carton label can be voided once the Master Carton is closed.
Warning: Voiding the Master Carton does not void the associated child Shipments. The child Shipment packages would be considered “orphaned.” Per UPS, the orphaned child packages cannot be associated to a new Master Carton ID.
“Orphaned” Shipments: Orphaned Shipments can be placed inside a new Master Carton, if a new child shipment/Master Carton ID is created. However, because those packages are not associated with the new Master Carton ID, they will not have tracking events in the UPS system until the Master Carton reaches the UPS distribution center and the individual Shipment labels are scanned. As a result, the domestic leg will not be tracked, but the international leg should include tracking to the destination.
