Setting Parameters for Automatic Returns

Parameters for automatic returns can be set for certain Carriers. They can include printing a return label for domestic shipments, specifying the return shipment weight and dimensions, and setting the Reference text for the return shipment. Do the following:

  1. Display the Carrier's Automatic Return page (SETTINGS > select the Carrier account > Automatic Return).


  2. These options are available:

    • Off: Cancels the selected Automatic Return options

    • Print return label for every domestic shipment: Prints a return label for domestic (non-international) shipments

    • Print return label when Control-F10 is pressed: Pressing CTRL+F10 presses the Ship button and prints a return label Pressing only F10 presses the Ship button but does not print a return label.

    • Default Service: Select the default service that the return/return label will use

    • Scan Based Label: Select this option if you are using scan-based returns for domestic shipments for the Carrier. Scan-based returns for the selected Carrier must be enabled in order for the Scan Based Label option to be used.

  3. Return shipment weight

    • Set weight to: Each return shipment is set to the weight entered here

    • Use Weight from outbound shipment, first parcel: Sets the return weight to match the weight of the first parcel in the outbound shipment

    • Use Weight from outbound shipment, all parcels total: Sets the return weight to match all packages in the outbound shipment (if the shipment is Multi-Parcel, the combined weight of all packages is used as the return weight)

  4. Return Shipment Dims

    • Return shipment has no Dims: Indicates that Dims for the return shipment will not be used

    • Use Dims from outbound shipment: The Dims for the outbound shipment are set for the return shipment

    • Set Dims to: Enter the Dims manually for the return shipment. In most cases, billing for the return shipment is based on its actual dimensions (not the dimensions used when the label was printed).

  5. Return shipment Reference

    • Return shipment has no Reference: The Reference field text for the outbound shipment will not be used for the return shipment

    • Use Reference from outbound shipment: Uses the Reference from the outbound shipment for the return shipment

    • Set Reference to: Sets the Reference for the return shipment to the Reference entered here
