Of course, the bar code scanner cannot actually weigh and measure packages. However, the bar code reader can read the bar code pertaining to the shipping box. For example, the bar code could be set up to include both the box part number and box size. Thus, if you can use the simple Descartes ShipRush shorthand/language, you can streamline the work environment, saving time and effort.
For example, your business uses shipping boxes of three different sizes. Each box has its own "box part number" printed on the side. For example:
BOX100 - 10x10x4
BOX500 - 14x14x10
BOX600 - 18x18x18
You could create a page with the following information that can be printed and then scanned as needed. For example, scanning the first bar code reads BOX100 and size 10x10x4.

BOX100: (10x10x4)

Tip: You can scan the bar codes from a printout. To print this page, click the vertical ellipsis (at left of the Search field), and then click Print Page.
The operator looks at the box and then scans the appropriate package size bar code from the above list. (You could put bar code stickers on the boxes or have the bar codes preprinted on the packaging.) The package size is then set in Descartes ShipRush Web.
