ShipRush

FedEx REST API and OAuth FAQ

What Is OAuth?

OAuth (Open Authorization) is an industry-standard protocol that can allow Descartes ShipRush to connect to FedEx® (Federal Express Corporation) without sharing credentials. This particular ShipRush-to-FedEx connection is used for creating shipping labels. (In the past, FedEx used different authorization protocols, but has since retired them for the newer OAuth process.)

Where are the Instructions for Registering My FedEx Account(s) for the OAuth Process?

Go to the FedEx Migration Guide.

Will I Always Need to Complete Multi-factor Authentication (MFA) When Registering My FedEx Account?

Not always. Depending on your FedEx account configuration, the registration process may complete automatically without requiring MFA verification. If your account supports direct credential delivery, you will proceed directly to the printer settings step without entering a PIN code.

When Do I Have to Update My FedEx Credentials?

FedEx requires all shippers to migrate to the new OAuth process as soon as possible.

What Will Happen If I Do Not Update My Account in Time?

FedEx has indicated that you will not be able to generate any tracking information until you update to the new authorization protocol.

Does Each Account Have to Be Re-registered to Use the New FedEx Connection?

Yes. If you have multiple FedEx accounts enabled, you need to complete the registration process for each one.

What Do I Do If I Do Not Know the Required FedEx Account Information?

Contact FedEx customer service or your local FedEx sales representative.

I Have Migrated My Account, but I Want to Reset to the Old FedEx Connection. What Do I Need to Do?

  1. You need to go to your FedEx account settings page

  2. After switching all your accounts to FedEx 2023, the button will change to "Switch all your FedEx accounts back to FedEx 2020".

  3. If you want to switch back to the FedEx 2020 connection, click this button and follow the steps to connect your accounts to the older FedEx integration. (See screenshot below)

Please keep in mind that when switching back to the FedEx 2020 integration, you will not be connected to the new FedEx security protocols, so at some point, you will need to change this account to the FedEx 2023 connection.
