Swiss Post is Switzerland's primary postal service carrier, supporting both domestic and international shipments with a range of delivery options. This guide will help you understand the available services and how to use them effectively in ShipRush.


Important: All Swiss Post shipments must originate from Switzerland (CH) or Liechtenstein (LI). You'll need a Swiss Post Franking License and API credentials to ship.


Domestic Services (Switzerland & Liechtenstein)

These services are available for shipments originating and destined within Switzerland and Liechtenstein. Swiss Post treats Liechtenstein as a domestic destination, so all domestic services apply.

  • Swiss Post PostPac Economy - Cost-effective standard parcel delivery with tracking included. Ideal for non-urgent shipments where cost is a priority.

  • Swiss Post PostPac Priority - Faster priority parcel delivery with enhanced tracking and delivery confirmation. Best for time-sensitive packages requiring reliable delivery.

  • Swiss Post Swiss-Express Moon - Premium express delivery service guaranteeing delivery by the next morning. Perfect for urgent overnight shipments.

  • Swiss Post SameDay - Same-day delivery service for extremely urgent shipments requiring delivery within hours.

  • Swiss Post Direct Parcel - Direct parcel delivery service with specialized handling and comprehensive tracking.

  • Swiss Post VinoLog - Specialized delivery service designed exclusively for wine and alcohol shipments, with temperature-controlled handling and compliance with alcohol shipping regulations.

  • Swiss Post Letter Domestic Registered - Registered mail service for important documents and letters, providing proof of mailing and delivery confirmation with recipient signature.

  • Swiss Post PP Franking - "Postage Paid" (PP Franking) service for bulk mailings. Instead of individual stamps, packages display a "PP" impression indicating prepaid postage. This streamlines bulk shipping processes and speeds up preparation for high-volume shippers.


International Services

For shipments from Switzerland or Liechtenstein to other countries:

  • Swiss Post Letter International Registered - Registered mail service for important documents and letters to international destinations, with proof of delivery, tracking, and signature confirmation.


Package Types & Limitations

Package Types

  • Package - Standard parcels. Supported by all services except letter services.

  • Letter - Documents and letter mail. Only supported by Letter Registered services (domestic and international).

Weight & Dimension Limits

Weight:

  • Maximum weight: 30 kg (66 lbs) for all package types

  • Weight is mandatory for all services except Letter Domestic Registered

Dimensions:

  • Standard packages: Maximum 100 cm × 60 cm × 60 cm

  • Bulky goods (oversized): Maximum 250 cm on longest dimension

  • Dimensions can be entered in centimeters (CM) or inches (IN)


Service Requirements & Notes
- Origin Countries: Shipments must originate from Switzerland (CH) or Liechtenstein (LI)
- Liechtenstein Coverage: All domestic services work for both CH and LI destinations
- Tracking: All services include comprehensive tracking via the Swiss Post tracking system
- Label Formats: Labels are generated as PDF and can be automatically converted to PNG or ZPL thermal formats
- Express Services: Express Moon and SameDay offer premium handling and priority routing
- Registered Mail: Letter services provide enhanced security with proof of delivery and recipient signature


Setting Up Your Swiss Post Account in ShipRush

To use Swiss Post shipping services in ShipRush, you need to connect your Swiss Post account with the proper credentials.

What You'll Need

Before you begin, make sure you have:

  1. Swiss Post Franking License(s) - One or more franking license numbers issued by Swiss Post. These are required for all shipments.

  2. API Credentials - OAuth 2.0 credentials from Swiss Post:

    • Client ID (also called Client Identifier)

    • Client Secret (also called Token ID)


  3. Swiss Post Business Account - An active Swiss Post business account with API access enabled

Account Setup Steps

  1. Navigate to Carrier Settings
    In ShipRush, go to Settings and click "Add Carrier"

  2. Select Swiss Post
    Choose "Swiss Post" from the list of available carriers

  3. Enter Your Credentials
    Provide the following information:

    • Client ID: Your OAuth Client Identifier from Swiss Post

    • Client Secret: Your OAuth Client Secret/Token ID from Swiss Post

    • Primary Franking License: Your main franking license number for domestic shipments

    • International Letters License (optional): A separate franking license for international letter services, if applicable


  4. Configure Additional Settings (Optional)
    You may also configure:

    • Domicile Address: An optional "Ship From" address that appears on labels

    • Multiple Franking Licenses: If you have multiple licenses, you can register up to 8 licenses and select the appropriate one per shipment

    • Label Printing Options: Choose which addresses to print on labels (recipient only, customer only, both, or none)


  5. Save Your Configuration
    Click "Save" to connect your Swiss Post account

Testing Your Connection

For testing purposes, Swiss Post provides sandbox credentials. Test franking licenses must be prefixed with "sandbox:" (e.g., "sandbox:60143930").

Important Notes:
- ShipRush uses OAuth 2.0 for secure authentication with Swiss Post. No username/password is required.
- Access tokens are cached for 240 seconds and automatically refreshed as needed.
- Some specialized services (like Express Moon, SameDay, or VinoLog) may require specific contract terms with Swiss Post.

Don't Have a Swiss Post Account Yet?

If you need to create a Swiss Post business account:

  1. Visit the Swiss Post website

  2. Contact Swiss Post to register for a business shipping account

  3. Request API access and obtain your OAuth credentials (Client ID and Client Secret)

  4. Obtain your franking license number(s) from Swiss Post

  5. Return to ShipRush and follow the setup steps above

Additional Services & Options

Swiss Post offers several additional services you can add to your shipments for enhanced delivery and security. These options can be selected when creating a shipment in ShipRush.

Delivery Options

  • Saturday Delivery - Deliver packages on Saturdays for an additional fee. (Not available for Express Moon, SameDay, or Letter services)

  • Delivery Time Slots - Schedule delivery during specific time windows to accommodate recipient availability:

    • 08:00-12:00 (Morning delivery)

    • 10:00-12:00 (Late morning)

    • 13:30-17:00 (Afternoon)

    • 17:00-19:00 (Early evening)

    • 19:30-21:00 (Late evening)

    (Not available for Letter services or Express Moon)


  • Direct Delivery - Direct parcel delivery with specialized routing (Not available for Letter services)

  • Preferred Delivery Date - Request delivery on a specific future date (Available for Economy, Priority, and VinoLog services only)

Signature & Security Options

  • Signature Required - Require recipient signature upon delivery for proof of receipt (Available for all services)

  • Assurance Signature - Enhanced signature requirement with higher insurance coverage (Available for all services)

  • Named Person Only - Deliver only to the named recipient on the address (Available for all services)

  • Delivery Confirmation - Receive acknowledgement of receipt when package is delivered (Available for all services)

Payment & Financial Services

  • Cash on Delivery (COD) - Collect payment from recipient upon delivery (Not available for International Letter services)

Special Handling

  • Fragile Handling - Special handling for fragile items requiring extra care (Package services only, not available for Letters)

  • Bulky Goods - For oversized packages requiring special handling (Package services only)

  • Manual Processing - Manual handling of specially packaged items (Package services only)

  • Limited Quantity Hazmat - For shipments containing limited quantities of dangerous goods (Package services except VinoLog)

Important Limitations:
- Maximum of 3 additional services can be selected per shipment
- Some service combinations may not be compatible - ShipRush will notify you if selections conflict
- Additional services may incur extra charges from Swiss Post

Return Labels

Swiss Post supports return labels (called "Business Reply Item" or "GAS" - Geschäftsantwortsendung in German) for select services:

Return Label Support:

  • Swiss Post PostPac Economy ✓

  • Swiss Post PostPac Priority ✓

  • Swiss Post Swiss-Express Moon ✓

  • Swiss Post SameDay ✓

When creating a return label in ShipRush, the shipping and return addresses are automatically swapped, and the label will be marked appropriately for Swiss Post's return processing system.

Email Notifications

Swiss Post can send automated email notifications to your customers about their shipments:

  • Ship Notification - Proof of posting notification sent when package is accepted by Swiss Post

  • Delivery Notification - Delivery confirmation sent when package is successfully delivered

You can configure notification emails in the shipment details when creating a shipment. Simply provide the recipient's email address and select which notifications to enable.

Tracking Your Shipments

All Swiss Post shipments include tracking. After creating a shipment in ShipRush, you'll receive a tracking number that you can use to monitor the package progress.

  • Extremely Urgent (Hours): Swiss Post SameDay

By Package Type

Troubleshooting & Common Issues

Address Requirements

Swiss Post has specific address formatting requirements:

  • House Numbers: Swiss Post typically requires separate house numbers. ShipRush automatically parses addresses to extract house numbers from your address field.

  • PO Boxes: Automatically detected and properly formatted by ShipRush

  • Phone Numbers: Must be properly formatted. Swiss Post validates phone number formats and will reject invalid numbers.

Common Error Messages

  • "Invalid franking license for this service type" - Make sure you're using the correct franking license for the service you selected. Some services require specific license types.

  • "Invalid service/packaging combination" - The service and package type combination is not supported. For example, Letter services require Letter packaging.

  • "Phone number not properly formatted" - Ensure phone numbers include country code and are in valid format (e.g., +41 79 619 4347)
